Thanks for the review of 2023. I've only been subscribed for (almost) 2 months so your summary provides a handy overview of what I've been missing out on. On Asbury; I appreciate your self-identification as a curmudgeon, albeit a soft-hearted one. I easily identify with the former, less so the latter, which is why I appreciate your good heart. On Shane McGowan; I found this story surprising and fun. Surprising because, well, I'd never heard of the guy before and was not sure I wanted to, that is until I read your essay. And fun because your home cooked duet was upbeat and happy. That you possess a lovely voice and know how to use it doesn't hurt. On your podcast idea; I like podcasts and would certainly check yours out, but I'm already over my head in podcast subscriptions so I'd be reluctant to add another. Then again you are clearly above average. And finally on your writing; I like the way you exemplify the pursuit of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

That is so kind James, thank you. 😊

Yes, the idea would be to make a podcast that's not like all the other podcasts. 😉

I love your essays. I hate podcasts. I do not listen to the podcasts of even the essayists I love best--because I cannot go back and reconstruct their arguments without great labor. If you will publish a transcript of your podcast, I might consider it. But if you could persuade AI to organize your podcasts into arguments, that would be better still.

Bethel, sometimes I wonder how you can produce as much as you are! And then you apologize for not doing more--no need for that. For what it’s worth, among the variety of “topics” about which you are writing, I have appreciated your insights and research on things related to philosophy and theology. Many blessings and much inspiration to you in 2024.

Thank you! I know you won't believe me, but I'm incredibly unproductive as compared with how productive I could be. 🙂
