One of your best. Articles like this are why I subscribe because you weave a variety of elements together to tell a bigger story than just the hijackers’ motivations, Sam Harris’s New Atheism, or the individual accounts. It’s all intertwined and I thank you for it.
I very much still remember where and when I first heard about the attacks, at this point shortly after the 2nd plane had hit and don’t think I’ll ever forget it.
Thank you so much. I had a bunch of notes which I'd shuffled around into a sort of outline, but I wasn't exactly sure what it would look like, and in such moments I find the best thing is to start writing and see what happens!
WOW. I put off reading this until just now. Glad I finally decided to read it. This hard-hitting piece should be a must-read for those 27% of US citizens born after 9/11. Thank You! for this excellent contribution for this 25th anniversary. It will stay with me for a while.
Thank you for this. I am reminded of the Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder and the ending, the land of the living and the land of the dead, the only survival the only meaning. The hope that just because it defies reason, keeps us going.
Two New York Times columnists, Thomas Friedman and William Safire wrote articles on the one year anniversary of 9/11; the first titled," Lessons from 9/11," the second," Lincoln and 9/11."
I would recommend a reading of these different approaches about the terrorist's attacks in conjunction with Bethel's offering. Friedman breaks his article into three Lessons with assigned reading suggestions. Safire focuses on Lincoln's Gettysburg cemetery speech, his choice of words and how to listen to it with "new ears." May we never forget.

Sigh...
