I copy and pasted this essay into ChatGPT and asked it to summarize with one sentence:
"D's neat, sharp, old-fashioned letter-writing handwriting is a reflection of his determination to not lose to his sister and his enjoyment in making himself do painful things."
Obviously, it missed the point. I told it to summarize again and it gave this:
"I apologize if my previous answer did not meet your expectations. To summarize the essay, it describes a teacher's experience with a student named D who had neat, sharp handwriting, and who enjoyed challenging himself with difficult tasks, such as algebra. The teacher eventually gives D an award for his work ethic and consistency in her algebra class. The teacher also reflects on the potential impact of chatbots on the field of education."
I don't think NLP (Natural Language Processing) is quite as advanced as people are making it out to be, but I do think that AI will start replacing jobs like accountants and paralegals in the next few years.
Since OpenAI updated ChatGPT, I asked it to summarize your essay again in one paragraph. Here's what I got:
"An English teacher reflects on how the OpenAI chatbot's writing capabilities could potentially impact the future of high school English education, as well as the economic ecosystem surrounding it. The teacher discusses the potential for the chatbot to take over certain writing tasks, but also asserts that it cannot replace the personal connections and emotional intelligence that teachers provide to their students. The teacher also reflects on a former student, D, and the impact their relationship had on his learning and growth."
Looks like the boys at OpenAI have been busy. I'd say that's a fair summation.
This was really good. Thanks.
Thanks for reading!
I really enjoyed this, thank you
Thanks Alan!
AI Ouput is always downstream from its Input/programing. Until it passes the Lovelace test, there's not much to see here.

Funny stuff!
